Man selling statues

 

 

There was a man who made a sculpture.

 

One day, a man made a statue of Hermes.

 

Hermes, the son of Zeus, the king of the gods, and Maia, the goddess of spring, was known as the god of luck, business, and travellers.

 

 

"I think I made it so well, too. If you sell it to the market, you'll make a lot of money."

 

 

The man took the statue and went to the market.

 

However, no one was willing to buy the statue no matter how long they waited.

 

In a little while, it was dark and the market had to close.

 

 

"This won't do. I'll have to shout and get customers."

 

 

The man cleared his voice, raised the statue above his head, and shouted.

 

 

"Here is a statue of the god Hermes.  Hermes is a god who brings good luck and wealth.

 

If you keep this statue in your home, wealth will come in and you will become rich."

 

 

The man shouted loudly until he lost his voice.

 

The person who was passing by said to the man.

 

 

“If the statue is so good, why are you selling it instead of keeping it in your house?”

 

 

Then the man replied.

 

 

"I'd like to too."

 

"So what?"

 

“I need money right now, but this statue doesn't make me rich right now.”

 

 

 

 

조각상 파는 사내

 

 

조각상을 만드는 사내가 있었습니다.  하루는 사내가 헤르메스 신의 조각상을 만들었습니다.

 

헤르메스는 신들의 왕 제우스와 봄의 여신 마이아 사이에서 태어난 아들인데, 행운의 신이자 장사의 신, 그리고 여행자의 신으로 알려있었습니다.

 

 

“내가 생각해도 너무 잘 만들었는걸. 시장에 내다 팔면 큰돈을 벌수 있을거야.”

 

 

사내는 조각상을 들고 시장으로 갔습니다.

 

그러나 아무리 기다려도 조각상을 사겠다는 사람이 없었습니다.

 

조금만 더 있으면 날이 저물어 시장도 문을 닫아야 했습니다.

 

 

“안 되겠다. 소리라도 쳐서 손님을 모아야겠다.”

 

 

사내는 목소리를 가다듬더니 조각상을 머리 위로 쳐들고서는 소리를 쳤습니다.

 

 

"여기 헤르메스 신의 조각상이 있습니다.   헤르메스는 행운과 재물 을 가져다주는 신입니다.

 

이 조각상을 집에 두면 재물이 들어와 부자 가 될 것입니다."

 

 

사내는 목이 쉬도록 크게 외쳤습니다.  마침 곁을 지나가던 사람이 사내에게 말했습니다.

 

 

"그 조각상이 그렇게 좋다면 당신 집에 두지 왜 팝니까?"

 

 

그러자 사내가 대답했습니다.

 

 

"나도 그러고 싶습니다."

 

"그런데요?"

 

“난 당장 돈이 필요한데, 이 조각상은 지금 당장 부자로 만들어 주 지는 않거든요.”
