The Donkey and the Greedy Mule

 

 

There was a merchant who bought a lot of things at the market.

 

The merchant divided the things he bought into two equal parts.

 

Then he loaded it on the donkey and the mule, respectively.

 

After a long time, the uphill road began.

 

The donkey, who was not feeling well, had a hard time going uphill.

 

So I asked the mule to do it.

 

 

"I'm sorry, mule, but the load is too heavy.

 

"I think I'll collapse and die if I keep going like this, so can you carry my luggage a little more?"

 

 

But the mule snorted.

 

 

"You're not the only one having a hard time. I carry the same burden as you."

 

 

The mule refused coldly.

 

The donkey asked several times, but the mule didn't even pretend to hear it.

 

It's been a few hours.

 

 

"Thud!"

 

 

Suddenly there was a loud sound that rang the ground.

 

The donkey, who was coming down behind, could not hold out and collapsed.

 

In addition, he was crushed to death by a heavy load.

 

 

"Oops, the donkey is dead, What should I do?"

 

 

The merchant agonized for a long time, looking embarrassed.

 

Then he transferred all the luggage from the donkey to the mule.

 

 

"If you sell the donkey's skin, it will be money, so let's go with only the skin."

 

 

The merchant skinned the dead donkey and loaded it on the mule again.

 

Then the mule sighed and murmured.

 

 

"If I had only listened a little more when the donkey asked, I wouldn't have to carry this heavy load alone.

I can't believe I'm going to carry a donkey skin. I think I'm being punished for refusing my friend's request."

 

 

 

 

 

당나귀와 욕심 많은 노새

 

시장에서 물건을 많이 산 상인이 있었습니다.  상인은 산 물건들을 둘로 똑같이 나눴습니다.

그러고는 당나귀와 노새에게 각각 실었습니다.  한참을 가노라니 오르막길이 시작되었습니다.

몸이 좋지 않았던 당나귀는 오르막길이 버거웠습니다.  그래서 노새에게 부탁했습니다.

 

"노새야, 미안한데 짐이 너무 무겁구나.

이렇게 가다가는 쓰러져 죽을 것 같으니 내 짐을 조금 더 들어 줄 순 없을까?"

 

하지만 노새는 콧방귀를 뀌었습니다.

 

"너만 힘든 게 아니야. 나도 너와 똑같은 짐을 지고 있다고."

 

노새는 매몰차게 거절했습니다.

당나귀가 몇 번을 부탁했지만 노새는 들은 척도 하지 않았습니다.  몇 시간이 흘렀습니다.

 

"쿵!"

 

갑자기 땅을 울리는 큰 소리가 났습니다.  뒤에 처져서 오던 당나귀가 버티지 못하고 쓰러지고 만 것입니다.

게다가 무거운 짐에 깔려 죽어 버리고 말았습니다.

 

"이런, 당나귀가 죽어버렸으니 어쩐다."

 

상인은 난처한 듯 한참을 고민했습니다.

그러다 당나귀에게 실려 있던 짐을 모두 노새에게 옮겨 실었습니다.

 

"당나귀의 가죽도 팔면 돈이 될 테니 가죽만 가지고 가자."

 

상인은 죽은 당나귀의 가죽을 벗겨 또 노새에게 실었습니다.

그러자 노새는 한숨을 쉬며 중얼거렸습니다.

 

"당나귀가 부탁했을 때 조금만 나눠서 졌으면 이 무거운 짐을 혼자 지고 가는 일은 없었을 텐데.

당나귀 가죽까지 지고 가는 신세가 되다니. 친구의 부탁을 거절한 천벌을 받는 모양이야."
