Pupa and Ant

 

 

It was a sunny spring day.

 

An ant, who was busy looking for food, encountered a creature he had never seen before.

 

It was a pupa.

 

The pupa wriggled its body.

 

But there were no feet, there were no wings, so I couldn't take a step forward.

 

 

"What a pity for you, you have no legs and you're wriggling.

 

I can go wherever I want... I can even climb to the top of the tree. Tsk tsk."

 

 

The ant kicked his tongue with a face of pity.

 

But the pupa didn't answer back.

 

It's been a few days.

 

The ant, who was searching for food, accidentally passed the place where he met the pupa last time.

 

But what happened?

 

Only the empty shell of the torn pupa remained.

 

 

"Oh, my. You must have been eaten by another animal because you couldn't escape."

 

 

The ant frowned.

 

It was then. Suddenly there was a huge shadow on the ant's head.

 

 

"What is it? Will it rain?"

 

 

The ant tilted its head in surprise and looked overhead.

 

What created the shade was a butterfly fluttering with wonderful wings.

 

Said the butterfly.

 

 

"Hey, ant friend. Why don't you brag like last time?"

 

"What are you talking about?"

 

 

The ant couldn't understand why.

 

 

"I was the pupa you laughed at for having no legs or wings!"

 

 

The butterfly fluttered its wings and flew high into the sky and disappeared from the eyes of the ant.

 

 

 

 

번데기와 개미

 

 

화창한 봄날이었습니다.

먹이를 찾아 분주히 돌아다니던 개미가 생전 처음 보는 생물과 마주쳤습니다.

바로 번데기였습니다.

번데기는 꿈틀꿈틀 몸을 움직거렸습니다.

하지만 발도 없었고, 날개도 없어서 한발자국도 앞으로 나아가지 못했습니다.

 

"넌 참 불쌍하구나, 다리도 없고 꿈틀거리기나 하고 말이야.

나는 그곳이 어디든 맘대로 다닐 수 있는데.. 나무 꼭대기까지 올라갈 수도 있고. 쯧쯧."

 

개미는 안됐다는 얼굴로 혀를 쯧쯧 찼습니다.

하지만 번데기는 아무런 대꾸도 하지 않았습니다.

며칠이 지났습니다.

먹이를 찾아 헤매던 개미는 우연히 지난번 번데기와 만난 곳을 다시 지나게 되었습니다.

그런데 이게 어찌된 일이죠?

찢어진 번데기의 빈껍데기만 남아 있을 뿐이었습니다.

 

"저런. 도망을 치지 못하니 다른 동물한테 잡아먹힌 모양이군."

 

개미는 이맛살을 찌푸렸습니다.

그때였습니다. 갑자기 개미 머리 위에 커다란 그늘이 지는 것이었습니다.

 

"어, 뭐지? 비가 오려나?"

 

개미는 놀라며 고개를 젖혀 머리 위를 바라보았습니다.

그늘을 만든 건 멋진 날개를 팔락이는 나비였습니다.

나비가 말했습니다.

 

"어이, 개미 친구. 지난번처럼 자랑 좀 해보지 그래?"

"무슨 소리야?"

 

개미는 영문을 알 수 없었습니다.

 

"내가 바로 다리도 날개도 없다고 네가 비웃은 그 번데기였다고!"

 

나비는 멋진 날개를 팔락이며 하늘 높이 날아올라 개미의 눈에서 사라져 버렸습니다.
