Bat, thorn and seagull

 

 

The bat, the thorn tree, and the seagull decided to do business together.  Said the bat.

 

 

“I will borrow money to do business”

 

 

Said the thorn tree.

 

 

"I'll bring my arm clothes"

 

 

Said the seagull.

 

 

"Then I will bring the copper. It will probably sell well."

 

 

After a while, the bat borrowed money, the thorn tree brought clothes, and the seagull brought a great deal of copper.

 

 

Bats, thorns, and seagulls went on a boat to go straight to a large market in the distance.

 

 

It was when some time passed.

 

 

Suddenly, the sky became dark and dark clouds came.

 

 

Then soon a strong wind blew and heavy rain began to pour down.

 

 

The sea, too, became angry and began to rise and capsized.

 

 

The boat carrying bats, thorn trees and seagulls could not overcome the rough waves.

 

 

Eventually, it sank into the sea, loaded with clothes and copper.

 

 

Bat, thorn and seagull barely survived.

 

 

But money, clothes, and copper were all lost.

 

 

From that day on, bats hid in caves during the day and only roamed around at night.

 

 

It was because I was afraid that I would meet those who lent me money.

 

 

The thorns grabbed hold of the hem of their garments of all who passed by.

 

 

It was because of the expectation that I could find my lost clothes in the sea.

 

 

The seagulls also stayed on the beach and searched around while their eyes were open.

 

 

It was because of the lingering feeling that his copper would come on the waves.

 

 

 

 

 

박쥐와 가시나무와 갈매기

 

박쥐와 가시나무와 갈매기가 함께 장사를 하기로 했습니다. 박쥐가 말했습니다.

 

 

“내가 장사를 하기 위한 돈을 빌려 올게.”

 

 

가시나무가 말했습니다.

 

 

"나는 팔만한 옷을 내놓을게."

 

 

갈매기가 말했습니다.

 

 

"그러면 나는 구리를 가져올게. 아마도 잘 팔릴 거야."

 

 

얼마 후 박쥐는 돈을 빌려 왔고, 가시나무는 옷을 내놓았으며, 갈매기는 구리를 엄청나게 많이 가져왔습니다.

박쥐와 가시나무와 갈매기는 곧바로 먼 곳에 있는 큰 시장으로 가기 위해 배를 타고 떠났습니다.

어느 정도 시간이 흘렀을 때였습니다.

갑자기 하늘이 어두워지면서 먹구름이 몰려왔습니다.

그러더니 이내 거센 바람이 불고 굵은 비가 쏟아져 내리기 시작했습니다.

바다도 성이 나서 솟구치고 뒤집히기 시작했습니다.

박쥐와 가시나무와 갈매기를 태운 배는 거친 파도를 이기지 못했습니다.

결국 옷들과 구리들을 실은 채 바닷속으로 가라앉고 말았습니다.

박쥐와 가시나무와 갈매기는 간신히 목숨을 건질 수 있었습니다.

하지만 돈도, 옷도 구리도 모두 잃어버린 뒤였습니다.

그날 이후 박쥐는 한낮에는 동굴에 숨어 있고 밤에만 돌아다녔습니다.

돈을 빌려준 이들을 만나지 않을까 하는 두려움 때문이었습니다.

가시나무는 지나가는 모든 사람들의 옷자락을 꽉 붙잡았습니다.

바다에서 잃어버렸던 자신의 옷을 찾을 수 있지 않을까 하는 기대 때문이었습니다.

또 갈매기는 눈을 뜨고 있는 동안 해변에 머물며 주변을 뒤지면서 돌아다녔습니다.

자신의 구리가 파도를 타고 떠밀려 오지나 않을까 하는 미련 때문이었습니다.
