The Wolf and The Fox

 

 

The lion, the king of the forest, is seriously ill.  So the lion was sick every day in the cave.

 

The news that the lion was sick spread quickly into the forest.

 

 

"The Lion King is sick. Let's all go to the cave."

 

 

Wolves, deer, hares, badgers, and squirrels visited the lion.

 

 

"Lion, you'll get well soon."

 

“Well, our lion is very strong”

 

 

Wolves, deer, rabbits, badgers, and squirrels all cheered to please the lions.

 

 

But somehow, I couldn't see the fox.

 

 

The fox was always the first to show up for things like this.

 

 

'That's right, it's an opportunity to trick the fox.'

 

 

The wolf, who had been tricked by the fox each time, thumped his knee.

 

 

"The lion is so sick, but the fox doesn't even come to visit."

 

 

The wolf pretended to be innocent and mentioned the fox.

 

 

"Seeing that the fox still does not come to visit, it is clear that he does not think of the lion as the king of forest animal."

 

 

Hearing the wolf's words made the lion feel bad too.

 

It was then.

 

 

"The lion!"

 

 

The fox hurriedly ran into the cave. The lion was furious.

 

 

"You fox! Why are you coming now?"

 

 

The fox answered quickly.

 

 

“I'm so sorry, lion. But I came late to ask a famous doctor how I could cure you.”

 

 

The lion was relieved of his anger when he heard that he could be healed.

 

 

"Oh, really? How can I cure my illness?"

 

"It is said that you can peel the wolf skin alive and attach it to a sore place."

 

 

The wolf who tried to bully his friend died a sad death.

 

 

 

 

 

뛰는 늑대와 나는 여우

 

숲속의 왕인 사자가 큰 병에 걸렸습니다.  그래서 하루 종일 동굴 속에서 끙끙 앓았습니다.

사자가 아프다는 소식은 금방 숲속으로 퍼져 나갔습니다.

 

“사자 임금님이 편찮으시대. 우리 모두 병문안 가자.”

 

늑대, 사슴, 산토끼, 오소리, 다람쥐들이 사자를 찾아갔습니다.

 

“사자님, 금방 나으실거에요.”

“그럼, 우리 사자님이 얼마나 튼튼하다고.”

 

늑대, 사슴, 토끼, 오소리, 다람쥐들은 저마다 사자의 비위를 맞추느라 살랑살랑 아양을 떨었습니다.

그런데 어쩐 일인지 여우가 보이지 않았습니다.  이런 일에는 항상 제일 먼저 나타나고 했는데 말이지요.

 

‘옳지, 여우를 골탕 먹일 기회로구나.’

 

매번 여우에게 당했던 늑대가 속으로 무릎을 탁하고 쳤습니다.

 

“사자님이 이렇게 편찮으신데 여우는 병문안도 오지 않네요.”

 

늑대는 짐짓 순진한 얼굴을 하고 여우를 들먹였습니다.

 

“여우 녀석이 아직도 병문안을 오지 않는 것을 보면 분명 사자님을 숲속 짐승들의 임금님으로 생각하지 않는 게 분명합니다.”

 

늑대의 말을 듣자 사자도 여우가 괘씸했습니다.

그때였습니다.

 

“사자님!”

 

여우가 헐레벌떡 동굴 안으로 들어서는 것이었습니다. 사자는 벌컥 화를 냈습니다.

 

“네 이놈, 여우야! 어찌 이제야 오는 것이냐!”

 

여우는 얼른 대답했습니다.

 

“정말 죄송해요, 사자님. 하지만 제가 늦게 온 건 유명한 의사님께 사자님 병을 고칠 수 있는 방법을 물어보기 위해서였습니다.”

 

사자는 병이 낫는다는 말에 솔깃해서 화를 풀었습니다.

 

“오, 그래? 어떻게 하면 내병이 낫는다더냐?”

“늑대 가죽을 산 채로 벗겨서 아픈 곳에 붙이면 된다고 하네요.”

 

친구를 괴롭히려고 했던 늑대는 슬픈 죽음을 맞고 말았습니다.
